Have you ever tried to improve one’s skills or habits? You likely noticed that doing so consistently throughout the day can help you become successful. One of the most important factors people should consider when it comes to cultivating a habit is meditation, according to the clinical social worker and anxiety specialist Sadie Bingham of Gig Harbor, Washington.

According to her, most people will not notice the effects of meditation immediately, so people must practice it regularly. Although it can be hard to start a daily practice, most people eventually find it easier once they notice its various benefits. People can make meditation a part of their lives in multiple ways, and it’s possible to start doing so.

Start small

Although it’s essential to start practicing meditation regularly, it’s also important to remember that it doesn’t need to be a 30-minute practice every day. Instead, starting with a goal of taking five minutes to sit and ponder your thoughts is essential. Doing so will allow you to start feeling more mindful and calm. If you cannot commit to a daily practice of 30 minutes, it’s still possible to practice for around 10 or 15 minutes.

Find the perfect time

Various sources will tell you that certain times are ideal for meditation. But your preferred time is when you can make it a habit. If you try making yourself practice at a time that conflicts with your responsibilities and schedule, you might feel uninspired and frustrated.

Instead, try setting aside a certain time each day to practice meditation. This can be a time when it’s most convenient for you, such as right before bed or during your commute. Having consistent practice can help you become more successful.

Get comfortable

You may have seen photos of individuals practicing meditation in the lotus position, which could be better for some. It can be hard to mediate if one is doing something that makes one feel uncomfortable. Fortunately, there is no need to practice in this type of position. Instead, try holding a position that is comfortable and natural.

If you’re not able to sit still, try moving around and taking a break from your sitting position. This will allow you to keep moving forward in your meditation. Some people find that focusing on each step helps them progress in their practice. Creating a tranquil and comfortable meditation space can also be a great way to enhance the experience. Some people also suggest using candles or photos of their loved ones.

Keep up with it

It can take time to establish a new habit, so don’t fret if meditation is going well. Instead, try exploring why you’re unable to keep moving forward with your practice. This will allow you to find ways to improve the experience and become more successful. According to Bingham, learning to accept and explore the feelings surrounding meditation can help you become more effective at translating these into daily life.

Having consistent practice can help you cultivate awareness. For instance, if you start feeling anxious and upset, then meditation helps you feel better. But, if you keep practicing, you can eventually manage your stress much easier.
